2015

2015 has been full of real highs and real lows. Highs in the sense that I had the chance to visit so many awesome new places, meet some fantastic new bloggers, and try out a bunch of exciting new activities. And lows in the sense that my 12-month plan was pretty much scuppered when I lost my job. Oh well, every cloud, eh?

But it’s December. We’ve all made it through another year! And now’s not the time to dwell on the bad times. So, without further ado, here are my 2015 travel highlights!

January

The year started with a quick trip up to Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland with some fellow bloggers (and my boyfriend, who was pretty happy to find he was the only guy on the whole trip!) The trip was organised by Visit Scotland in order to celebrate their Year of Food and Drink – and in those few days we ate and drank seriously well. It also coincided with Burns Night, so we got to experience first-hand what that was all about. Turns out there’s a lot more to it than some tartan and dancing!

February

In February I returned to Germany for the second time. This time, it was to the city of Cologne to see my friend. And I did it on the train. And was there and back in less than 36 hours. It was mental, but so worth it in order to spend some time with my girl before she flew off on her own exciting travels! We went to a chocolate factory, took long walks along the Rhein, and even put our own lock on the iconic bridge to celebrate our friendship.

March

THE MONTH OF SKIING. And it was in Austria – my first new country of the year! Inghams sent me along to experience life as a (beginner) skier. Turns out, I am not a natural at skiing. But I was bitten by the ski bug, and I fell in love with the Austrian scenery and the way of life. One of the real highlights of my year, for sure!

April

A quieter month than others, but that doesn’t mean it was boring! As well as booking up my two-week trip to America, I managed to squeeze in a quick trip to the beautiful Yorkshire village of Helmsley. I could snap away taking pictures for days there, it’s stunning from every angle…

May

Another month, another new country. This time it was to Paphos, Cyprus, with icelolly.com. I took along my best mate and we turned it into a girlie break, where we hung by the pool, chased cats and explored some of the historical sights. It was the first time I’d actually been to a beach destination that was so picturesque. And it’s spoilt me for life! Definitely looking to get some more beachin’ into my life in 2016.

In May I also conquered my fear of heights by climbing over the O2 in London. It wasn’t as scary as I expected, but let’s ignore that part for now.

June

OK, nothing much really happened this month. Let’s just move on swiftly…

July

Afternoon teas galore around London this month! I afternoon tea-d (totally a verb, right?) at the Wellcome Kitchen, Secret Garden, British Museum and Sanderson Hotel. Put on around 20 stone, too.

It wasn’t all just eating though. I headed down south to stay in a luxury Pullman train carriage, which was absolutely sensational. I also hung out with some more bloggers in Leeds at icelolly’s #BlogAtTheBeach event.

August

Ah, the month of the UK trips. And, more importantly, the month where I actually managed to tick off some places I’d been meaning to visit for a while, including Oxford and London’s Sky Garden. I managed to unearth the one place in London you should head to if you’re even feeling sad (The London Cat Village!). And I was also invited down to Kent for a day out at Quex Park, an area home to animals, a museum and mouth-watering dining options. My mum even had her first ever afternoon tea there, and she loved it!

September-October

In these couple of months I spent time adjusting to my new job – as well as booking up lots of America day trips for November!

November

November! Where to start! I spent an epic fortnight ticking off some American sights that I’ve been dying to see for years. From Vegas to LA to San Francisco, I also managed to make it to the Valley of Fire, the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. I still have so much to write up on this trip, but if you’re thinking of going there at some point, then make 2016 your year! It really is an incredible part of the world.

December

As for the last month? That was all spent a little closer to home, checking out all the Christmas sights of London and Manchester with trainline.
