For 11 months of the year, I try to avoid the crowds of central London as much as possible, but, come December, my inner-child gets the best of me. I just can’t help it: all I want to do is head towards the Winter Wonderland that is Oxford Street.
Every December, I make it my mission to head there for a spot of after-work shopping, purely just to soak up all the magical lights. They’re a sure-fire way to get you into the festive spirit, whether you’re a fan of the Christmas season or not.
Last week I took an evening stroll down Oxford Street from Bond Street station down towards Tottenham Court Road, soaking up all the lights. It’s a walk that should take around 15 minutes, but it took me almost an hour because I was so busy jumping up and down with excitement snapping away.
♦ Shop Window Displays
Oxford Street features a number of big-named superstores, all vying for the title (albeit an imaginary one) of ‘Best Christmas display’. This year, my vote goes to John Lewis, which has dressed up their windows to match their Christmas advert. For those who haven’t seen it, the advert follows the story of a little boy and his penguin, Monty, who desperately wants a Mrs. Penguin. Yeah, you might have to see it here because it’s a real tear-jerker.
In each of the windows you’ll find penguins dressed up in John Lewis items in the kitchen, living room and laundry room…I especially loved the one with the little tutu ♥
It was definitely a bit too much for me, and I now really want a penguin for Christmas. Please, Santa?
If you’re in London this Christmas, there are a number of other stores that deserve your attention. Make sure to catch the magically imaginative window displays of Selfridges and Harrods in particular!
Lovely photos! I was there just yesterday Emily! I do love the Oxford Street Christmas lights but I must admits the crowds drove me mad – I wanted to photograph it but could barely walk nevermind get my camera out so well done you for managing to take all these great pics 🙂
