Whether it’s a physical list written down on a piece of paper and tucked under your mattress, or a subconscious one floating around, nearly all of us have some kind of bucket list. It might be to do with famous people you want to meet, meals you want to eat or, as in my case, destinations you want to visit.
Transun are giving one lucky person and a friend the chance to win a trip to see something that is undoubtedly on many people’s bucket list – the opportunity to see the Northern Lights inside the Arctic Circle!
My heart quickened when I heard about this competition. Seeing the Northern Lights is at the top of my blog’s Wish List and it’s something I’ve been dying to see for years. Even my nan has seen them in Norway, although – frustratingly for me – most of her photo attempts were of the floor than of the night sky…
To win this fantastic competition, all you have to do is write a blog post about your top three bucket list destinations. So, without further ado, let’s have a gander at my picks!
1. Cuddle a koala in Australia
While some dream of visiting Australia for the surfing, others may fancy taking a trip down under for the chance to see the gorgeous Great Barrier Reef.
Now, I’m not saying that I don’t want to do any of these things…but I really, really love koalas.
Despite everyone’s attempts to put me off them (they smell, they have chlamydia, they’re vicious) I’m still in love with them as ever. Even if I don’t get the chance to cuddle one, I’d love to get up close and personal with one, feeding them eucalyptus. Heck, I’d even clean out their cages if I had to.
What I will look like when I eventually hold a koala. Probably. (Thanks to Jodie at www.thelittlebackpacker.com for the original photo!)
2. Visit Santa in Lapland
Firstly, a bit of context: I’m like a small child at Christmas (which, in my books, tends to get stretched over a four-month period). From writing every single person I know a Christmas card, to buying treats for all the cats in my life, and making up boxes for Operation Christmas Child, I love absolutely every moment of it. (In fact, I’ve still got Michael Buble’s Christmas album stuck on repeat in my head. Such a classic.)
Even my ginger cats get the Christmas treatment
The Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is basically my dream place: snow, cosy log cabins, igloos, huskies, reindeer, aurora borealis AND even Santa’s home. Granted I’m a little bit too old for Santa’s knee now, but that doesn’t mean I can’t soak up the wintry wonderland that is Lapland!
3. Chill in Costa Rica
I would happily trade a year in Hawaii, the Maldives, the Seychelles and Fiji for just a week in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is, to me, an absolute paradise. You’ve got luxury beaches, volcanoes, patient sloths, colourful wildlife, jungle and cities – basically, you would never get bored. There’s also amazing eco lodges, and a sloth sanctuary. (OK, yes, there is a slight animal theme in my choices.)

Haha I love the picture! I have actually cuddled a koala and it was pretty enjoyable – I do recommend it!! Plus the rest of Australia is pretty amazing. I’ve been wanting to go to Costa Rica for ages. Definitely on the need to visit list! x

Good luck Emily, this sounds like an amazing opportunity. The Northern Lights would definitely be one of my bucket list destinations, along with Easter Island and Tanzania. I’ve only visited the latter – loved your selection
Hi – I’m in the Scottish Highlands and your opening photo with your heading is what simply amazes me – the Northern Lights (although I know you also get them in the southern hemisphere too) – I’ve only caught a glimpse of them over the years, but I know if I head over to the west coast then they can appear as flashing sets of sheets across the night sky.
With my passion being the night sky – seeing this with the stars and planets behind, is something I WILL do more of – definitely a bucket list item that I want to keep putting more and more spades into!
All the best, Mark
